Getting Fit in Natural Way-C2 Green Tea will do

You don’t want to spend a lot just to lose pounds, right?

By: deathsumi_aikari a.k.a Desiree M. Manalo

There are numerous of commercial ads that offer us selections of fat-burning drugs or other drinks/foods just to look us much better. These stuffs promises us that we will not have to exercise a lot but sometimes if we really serious enough, we have to risk our savings.

I explained in one of my past blogs about the Xenical which cost about P45-50/ pill. It was kind of expensive because ordinary people couldn’t afford it.

One of my friends shared about this natural but very effective way to lose pounds. Well, it is up to you if you will believe and try this. She told me about the C2 Green Tea with calamansi and Fitrum.I already started buying C2 Green Tea and drinking it together with two calamansi juice extracted. She told me that I can save here. I haven’t tried the C2 with Fitrum because I am expecting and still observing what will be the results of my first attempt. If ever the C2 Green Tea will be effective enough, I’ll not buy Fitrum (with L-Carnitine) anymore. At first, I already anticipated that Green tea leaves extract would taste bad. But with calamansi extract would make it much good.

Right now, my bf told me that my tummy become smaller. Likewise, I am preventing myself drinking too much sodas/ sweet drinks and eating sugary foods. I drink about 2 glasses of water before 6pm or dinner. In this way, I could feel I am already full and I avoided rice.
Rice could give us so much calories and energy but we don’t need this when we sleep. After all, we shouldn’t be in a hurry sacrificing our cravings. We may begin from 1 ½ cups of rice up to the point we can totally disregard rice. We don’t want to tremble and faint before we get into sleep. If you can, start purchasing soup powder or any light foods and serve this as your dinner. I suggest that you have to eat your breakfast, lunch, and have a light snacks.

So far, this is what I can share. I believe that the effects of this activity will still depend on how strict and discipline you are in your diet.
Just remember, if you are not yet ready and still fulfilling your food cravings don’t start yet. Have a good decision so that your improvements will be continuous. Don’t fool yourself/ cheat when eating your meal. Have a nice day!

The Freshmen’s First Day of College Life

What to prepare before facing the big university and new environment.

By: Desiree M. Manalo

After the Christmas parties, JS proms, and happy memories with your buddies, your high-school life has ended. You will be facing the new world and a new chapter in your life. New textbooks will be open and much more challenges await your skills and capabilities.

As a college freshie, it is natural to get confuse about your new school policies, the building, and become uneasy with the new environment. I created this guide which includes my shares and insights what a college freshman should prepare before the beginning of the classes.

CHOOSE THE COURSE WHAT YOU LIKE

The college courses are like foods from a menu in a restaurant. So many varieties to choose from but in college, you only have to select one course only. Don’t be confused. Your first year in college serves as your preparation for the upcoming years. You still have another chance to change your course. What is important here is that you will choose your course not because it is in-demand abroad or your friends are taking the same course too, or your parents are forcing you to take it. You have to choose the course according to what are your capabilities. Maybe, you will have to select from two courses in your liking. Choose the best where you think you can excel and may possibly help your future. You may consider your parents’ choice but let them know what you really love to do and explain them the reason why have you chosen that course.

VISIT YOUR SCHOOL

Prepare your sense of direction by dropping in your school. You have to get familiar with the important school facilities like the library, dean’s office (in high school it is equivalent to principal’s office), internet room, laboratories, gymnasium, auditorium, canteen, and the wash areas/ comfort rooms. More importantly, you don’t want to be like a lost child during the lunch breaks. Ask some school/university map from your admission if you will be entering a big university. In this way, you will not be wasting time running around the hallway or going back-and-forth of the school grounds when your class is already starting.

PREPARE YOUR SCHOOL THINGS

After you have enrolled to your chosen course, perhaps you will have knowledge how many subjects you will take for the first semester. Buy enough number of notebooks and writing materials. Don’t buy unimportant things since you still have to attend orientation in your every class.

THE FIRST DAY OF YOUR COLLEGE LIFE

Sleep early the night before your first college day. Wakeup on time. Eat your breakfast to gain enough energy. Leave the house/ dormitory an hour or two before your first class begins. If you have enough time when you arrive the school campus, roam around and review the school shortcuts and other important facilities.

When you enter your first class, sit on the first three rows of the chairs. In this way, you will have a good view from the chalk / white board and your class instructor.

If someone feels like to chat with you, don’t ignore him/her. Give a nice smile and don’t judge others easily. There is nothing wrong being friendly. If you want others to see you as a nice and approachable person, talk nicely. When your class instructor arrived and greeted the rest of you, do the same. Whenever you are obliged to introduce yourself, don’t be afraid. Introduce yourself briefly.

After the day, probably you will feel relax and enlightened.

I hope this blog helps freshmen.

Note: This blog may be updated after sometime. I don't own the pictures. I just used them as an examples. Credits to all the owners.

Missing Japanese Foods? Takoyaki and Sushi are available in Metro Market Market.

Japanese Foods in Affordable Prices around the mall
By: Desiree M. M.

Takoyaki and Sushi are just few of the Japanese foods loved by the Filipinos and other Nationalities. These delicacies are so popular that many restaurants offer them in the menu. Unluckily, if you really want to have a taste of these mouth-watering cookings, considering the original recipe and ingredients, you have to save a few hundreds. Japanese restaurants in big malls around the Metro serve Takoyaki and Sushi with authentic ingredients. But only people can afford them.

According to Mr. Wikipedia, Takoyaki is a Japanese dumpling made of batter, diced or whole baby octopus, tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, and green onion, topped with okonomiyaki sauce, green laver (aonori), mayonnaise, and katsuobushi (fish shavings), first popularized in Taisho-eraOsaka. While Sushi is a vinegar rice topped with fish or mixed with vegetables.

When I was in middle school, I always dream eating sushi someday. Even if it would cost a lot, I really wanted to try one. When I knew about Tokyo Tokyo, I tried the sushi but my savings could not afford my cravings. It was such a frustration. One time, I found a sushi offered from the supermarket and a number of pieces with good price. I bought one and that was the first time I also learned to use chopsticks. I tried and my first bite was like a “speechless judgment”. The taste of sushi was very authentic and my taste buds were crying for more. I’ve learned that you have to dip the sushi on the soy sauce with calamansi / citrus extract or with wasabi. My takoyaki story was simple. When I first watched Gokusen and other anime series, I saw this delicious looking chow with octopus. It was like a stranger for me. But Takoyaki was very difficult to hunt. I couldn’t really find anywhere and only few people know where to find this. The one that I bought for the first time (with a very small octopus cut) was a bit pricey. After sometime, I purchased takoyaki with affordable cost and much bigger.

I was really hoping that someday there would be a small food stall/ restaurant who would offer less expensive delicacy like this two. Now, that was like a dream came true. Sushi and Takoyaki could be purchase at less time. It is good to know we could have a taste of these delicacies event the ingredients of the takoyaki has only few octopus pieces and sushi varieties are limited.

In Metro Market Market, Maki Mi Sushi sells affordable sushi with variety of container sizes with mixed pieces. They have Solo, Double, and many more. Among the many choices of sushi in Japan, Maki Mi Sushi sells about few classes of sushi. As far as I can remember, they have California roll, and nigiri-sushi (tamago sushi, crab sushi). I don’t know own the photos below but these are the kinds of sushi Maki Mi Sushi offers.

Takoyaki can be found at the foodcourt section of Metro Market Market. I am sorry and I forgot the name of the food stall. They sell takoyaki balls in 4 pcs. including the mayonnaise and the toppings in good price. The takoyaki balls taste good and the vegetable fillings were fulfilling. The original octopus ingredient is included but only in few chopped.

For those who wanted to try different cuisine other than Pinoy delicacies, there is no harm in trying new foods for your taste buds.

How Effective is Xenical-Orlistat, as fat burning drug?

By:Desiree M.M.

It was January 2009 when I began taking fat reducing pills/ fat- burning drugs. I decided buying Fitrum which was very affordable in the market. For just P12-14.00 and a pill per day, with good exercise everyday, and proper diet, you could achieve the body you want. I continued taking Fitrum, 2 pills per day. However, they would say you really have to do some exercises. But I think I was too busy during the past 1st 3 months of this year. I am too lazy to have a 15 min.-30 mins exercise everyday because of school and tiredness.

Sometimes I ate my meal in wrong time and couldn't prevent eating after 6pm. Maybe I was just having too many reasons and excuses.
But then, I tried Xenical which is very popular in advertisements. I knew there would be nothing wrong if I'll try this for a week or less. So, I started saving P45-50 everyday and bought 1 pill a day. I believed that Xenical is effective even without exercise. So, I just took one pill and ate my meal even couldn't be consider a good diet. I observed my eating habits and my body mass/ weight. After few days, maybe 5 days- 7 days, I saw the results.
It seemed that IT IS REALLY EFFECTIVE!
The last time I weighed was 125lbs, and too overweight for a 4'11 inches person like me. I saw that my waistline started to loose few inches, 2-3 inches, but not too much.
My arms were getting smaller, and I felt that I am lighter! Moreover my tummy was getting flat. When I walk the stairs, I only have to use less energy. Even I ate too much it was good to know that Xenical really worked like a MAGNET to fats. Once you eat, there are fats and calories to be converted. So, Xenical works by sticking the fats of the food we take with the drug and expels out through bowel movement. Many people say that when you take Xenical you will be having loose and oily tools or sometimes, when you fart there will be an amount of feces coming out. It may be gross to think but this is a PROOF that those unused oils are thrown away by this drug. In my own experience, there wasn't an incident like this, oily-loose stools since I am not taking the pill with exercise. Xenical is BETTER and MUCH effective together with regular exercise everyday! Although the price is not very BUDGET friendly, we can always take this pill 5x/week and reduce the food we eat. Drink plenty of water and prevent TOO MUCH SUGARs, like chocolates and softdrinks. Also, large amount of sodium chloride/ salt is not very good to Kidneys and to our health. Xenical is not very suggestive to people with tight budget. but there are other alternatives like they say, take FITRUM with green tea, as in GREEN TEA like in C2. don't sweetened the tea coz it will be less effective. Slenda is also an alternative.

UKay UKay in Metro-The Benefits and Disadvantages of Ukay Ukay

By: Desiree M. M.

This is a review about the Ukay Ukay that can be found in different places in Metro Manila.

This review contains my thoughts and opinions about this very popular store of imported clothes, shoes, bags, stuff toys, and other second-handed stuffs.

What is UKAY UKAY?

UKAY UKAY came from the word "HALUKAY" which means to dig-up.
Ukay Ukay/ Ukayan originally can be found in Baguio City. Baguio City is the Summer Capital of the Philippines located at the northern part of Luzon.
This a heaven of many imported sweaters, jackets, and other RTWs.

Ukay-Ukay is very famous to every Pinoy even to rich people.
Stores like this can save almost 50-80% of a person's budget from buying clothes, shoes, and other things. Although many people do not really rely on Ukay Ukay because of many factors, this place greatly help especially those
who want to save and purchase the shoes/ bag items they desire.

I, Myself can really prove how Ukay Ukay works. I am not a fashionista, but I got my own style. Sometimes jologs or my outfit is out of the tune.

The following are the benefits of UKAY UKAY

SAVE MORE!
Clothes, Pants, Blouses, dresses, shoes, bags, stuff toys, and other things can be bought for almost half of the original price from malls.
Example, a P500.00 can only buy a t-shirt from malls. But in Ukay Ukay, from 200- 250 pesos you can purchase a shirt/ blouse. The prices of these items ranging from P20-P200 (if it is clearance sale) - P200- 800 (regular prices) -P200 P1,500 (for new arrivals).

MORE CHOICES OF CLOTHES, BAGS, SHOES, ETC.
Clothes varies from jackets, sweaters, blouses, skirts, long skirts, dresses, shoes, boots, slippers, bags, and etc. These choices will not only fill your eyes with happiness but also makes you to select your desired item type.
If you are a cosplayer/ person with own style in clothing, this place is for you.
Pants and upper garments of different colors are available, corsets and undies too, imported handbags, shoulder bags, bakcpacks, pouches, wallets are displayed, and blouses with different styles and designs varies a lot.

IMPORTED ITEMS
Ukay Ukay items mostly came from the US, asian countries, and European Countries. 80-100% of UKay UKay items are imported and original.

RARE ITEMS
If you will compare the items and clothes from malls to Ukay Ukay, items from malls are removed after some time. This means, every time there is a new trend in fashion, the items are brought back to the manufacturer / put into SALE.
But in Ukay Ukay, items from 70's up to now can possibly be in sight.
Checkered pants, laced skirts, gothic clothes, vintage shoes and shirts , bags, and kitchen stuffs, dresses of all kinds and almost all.

Disadvantages of Ukay Ukay

CLEANLINESS OF ITEMS
In Ukay Ukay, items are received by the store in boxes being shipped from other countries. Since these clothes are not 100% clean, there is a great chance that bacteria and viruses accumulates every item. Even the items passed to sanitation inspection/ sprayed with disinfectants, these clothes are second- handed and worn and touched by different people.
Some items smell bad and almost all the items of RTWs have the same odor.
So, after purchasing an item, wash it thoroughly before wearing.

LIMITED SIZES, COLORS, and STYLES of ITEMS
Sizes for clothes, shoes, and other wearables are limited.
In ukay ukay, sometimes there is only one size of a shirt/blouse or pants, and no more other sizes are available. the shoe sizes and colors are also limited. if there are a lot of boots from the ukay ukay stores, mostly i observed there is only one color, one size, and one style for each. variety of rubber shoes, leather shoes, slippers, and sandals has only one styles, colors, and sizes.

CONDITION OF ITEMS
This is the biggest issue among the ukay ukay items. If you have found a good ukay ukay, you may have purchase items in good conditions. with complete buttons, fixed zippers, and the fabric is not damaged. but if you are unlucky enough, the negative sides of the items may appear. maybe, you have bought shoes with broken soles and detached leather/ heels, blouses with damaged buttons, shirts with broken buttons, pants with no zippers, and sometimes dirty skirts with fading colors.

As a Conclusion, for me UKAY UKAY is Good for people with a few budget, good sense of original style in clothing, and a determination to travel in metro to search Ukay Ukay stores and dig up clothes for long hours.

Department Stores in malls are best choice for individuals with Good Budget, likes new trends in fashion, and only have few time to purchase some items, since, items and wearables are in good condition and always new in malls.

As a person, who don't really a shoppaholic in malls or visiting a boutique, I have learned to like and love Ukay Ukay. This store helped to purchase the shoes, boots, and other clothing that i dreamt of. I think my good judgements in choosing good items with fine conditions helped my savings and frustrations.

A Guide to New Cosplayers

A Guide in Cosplay Catwalk
By: Desiree M. M.

What should be prepared before a cosplay event? What should be brought during the anime/ cosplay cons?
This guide contain things and points what a newbie cosplayer should bring and what other things to prepare before an anime event and Cosplay Contest.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

If you are new to cosplay community, possibly you once became a SPECTATOR. You have witnessed how popular other cosplayers were and how good-looking they are on their mecha or expensive costumes.

Maybe you are wondering where to start and what to prepare.

To begin with, it is just alright if you have a small budget for a costume building. Just remember as long as you continue cosplaying you will learn how to be creative and resourceful enough. Creating your costume will basically begin with an anime photo reference and most important knowing the character’s personality.

You don’t have to rush things. Use your power of observation during events and review the cosplayers’ attitudes and how busy it will be if you are on their toes. This will help you out by learning how to be an effective cosplayer (maybe if you are planning) and to enjoy your self-expression.

IMPORTANT:
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL THE RULES AND GUIDELINES of the cosplay category if you are planning to join the cosplay contest. There are some things that are not allowed during the event especially regarding the costume/ props to bring.

THE ANIME /GAME / TOY CHARACTER OF YOUR CHOICE

Before cosplayers imitate/cosplay a certain character, it will all start by watching the series/ read the manga or played the game. An anime series/manga/ game have a good number of characters to choose from. You may select depending on the materials you have at hand or if you think your personality is the same like that anime character.

Sometimes, you may choose the character because you think you can build the costume easily or someone can help you. Also, you may prefer the character for the reason it is popular or you have completed the series/ currently watching it.

It is very essential to watch the anime first before selecting the character. It is always be good to update yourself about the series/manga/game because in this way you will get familiar with the true personality of the chosen character. Don’t just rely on what other people say. It is best to try the game / watch some battle scenes, watch the anime series or read the manga. Furthermore, you will have an accurate idea what the costume/ props really look like.

THE COSTUME AND MATERIALS/ BUDGET

After selecting the character of your choice and if you are planning to join a upcoming cosplay contest, consider your budget. Expect that you will spend money.

Example, you are planning to cosplay/ build a mecha costume, you have to save a 4 digit numbers of peso. If you are creative enough, maybe you can create the costume easily. Sometimes, a lending hand from other people is very important especially if you will be planning to build a 6ft. robot. Having few savings from your piggy bank will help you to build a semi mecha costume, not very detailed and complicated. Best suggestion, refer to your body size so that you can move freely during cons.

Common costumes being cosplayed are made with fabric and other light materials.

Example, seifuku or Japanese school uniform. For beginners, try to cosplay someone with inexpensive costume. Simple but distinguishable. Before asking a seamstress to sew and make your costume, check your closet and maybe there are old clothes/ unused fabric that can be use. It will save you from purchasing yards of fabric in fabric shops. Ask someone to sew/ your mom/ try it by yourself first.

If you have a good budget, sketch or prepare a photo reference of the character you will be portraying. Much better draw every details and explain to the costume-maker or seamstress that you want this to be made exactly. During the process of the costume making, always visit your seamstress/costume maker to ensure and to correct errors if there are any. Make some adjustments if necessary.

If you wanted to buy the materials yourself, check DIVISORIA. Located in Manila, Phils. This place is a haven for all your costume/ cosplay needs. Have a good budget and list all the expenses and things you will buy to avoid purchasing unimportant things. Almost everything can be found here, from the desired fabric, right materials, props, affordable accessories, and other sewing needs. Once you arrived the place, don’t buy the materials right away. There are a lot of stores to choose from. Some stores sell the materials/ fabrics cheaper than the other. In this way you will spend less.

Note: Wear comfortable footwear and light clothing before going to Divi because this is a large place to look around. Have a rain gear/umbrella with you.

When I began cosplaying, I spend about 1500-2000 pesos. This comprised the fabric, fare expenses, food and ticket during the event.

But still, your own expenses depend on what you will cosplay. :D

PROPS/COSTUME ACCESSORIES

In some cases, the character of our choice has props or some accessories.
Study and review the props to be used. Don’t forget to look for accurate references.

At times, we think that the accessories included with the costume are difficult to create or to find. Use your imagination and think what materials the accessories could be made of. Check your old collection of (fake) jewelries, beads, and alike. You can always customize your own.

Customizing your own props/ accessories will help you to develop your creativity and resourcefulness. If there is nothing available at home, buy or ask for unused accessories from a friend or relative.

If you have a budget, ask someone to make your props so it will look more accurate and much better. Talk to a trusted costume/props-maker to avoid any misunderstanding and money- issues.

On some occasions, we can’t prevent choosing a character with an unusual hair color and length . Example, characters with green, red, yellow, or blue hair, and very long or very short hair length. Wigs are always available, also in Divisoria or Department Stores. But wigs should not be the priority if you want to save. Hair Dyes or colored hair sprays can be purchase from P20.00-P120. But then, if you really wanted to achieve the exact hair color and length of the chosen character, you should have a budget of P500 (very short hair) -P2000 (very long hair).

Check Mannequin Inc. at Divisoria they sell different wigs for all your needs.

PLANNING AND JOINING THE COSPLAY CONTEST

Before joining the cosplay contest, practice walking or modeling like you are in a runway.
Walking fast on the stage or being shy/timid is normal to beginners. Develop your self- confidence or do some acting / short play about the character you desired. This will avoid you from looking like a fool during the catwalk. We all know that you don’t want to look like a laughing stock in front of the audience. Practice the factors that will affect the criteria for judging. Remember that in a cosplay catwalk you are given an ample time to pose and do a short skit. Use this time so that the audience or photographers can take a picture of you.
Face the judges and use the stage for your advantage.

Important:
If you think you are ready for the catwalk, read and understand all the guidelines and rules of the event in cosplay category. Provide all the necessary things, like photo reference and any valid ID’s. If you are ask to print your registration form, have a copy. Register early if online pre-registration is available. This will avoid too much hassles before the cosplay program.

Minors are always ask to bring a written consent letter from your parents/ guardian and a photocopy of a guardian’s valid ID. Always OBEY this rule because the event organizers will not be responsible for your full security (if you are alone) nor didn’t force you to join the event.

FOLLOW ALL THE RULES AND GUIDELINES TO AVOID PROBLEMS.

WHAT TO BRING BEFORE THE EVENT

The following are the things to bring before the event. Prepare them 2 days or a day before the event.

Food and Thirst Quenchers
If you want to save from buying foods in expensive food stalls bring some bread/sandwich and water/ juice/ soft drinks with you. During the cosplay event you cannot avoid being hungry. Sometimes, you will choose to stay in the event area instead of roaming around the mall/ any other places.

Emergency Kit
This kit should contain extra needle and yarn in case your costume will get damage, strong glue and spare buttons (light costume), fabric, and additional rubber sheets (mecha costume) / accessories, tape, and alike. Extra money is necessary too.

Makeup Kit
Prepare your makeup kit. You should make your face clean and nice-looking. Oily face is not good esp. if you will be wearing a very nice costume. For boys, face powder/ foundation and lip balm is enough. For girls, bring foundation, lip balm/lipstick, eyeliner, cheek tint, eyeshadows, hairclips, rubber bands, and necessary to make you look good when someone took a picture of you.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE THE EVENT DAY

Review the venue.
If this is your first time to visit the place, have someone with you and drop by the area. In this way you will get familiar with the shortcuts and paths to the venue.

:D If you think that your costume is difficult to wear, invite a friend or relative to help you to put on your costume. It is nice to have a relative with you so that you will have a personal photographer also.

If event tickets are available before the event date, purchase one.

THE EVENT DAY ITSELF

Wake up on time.
To avoid traffic jam and cramming, leave the house an hour or two hours before the event starts. It will be better if you have your own car if you have big costume with you.

Take a bath, eat your meal, and brush your teeth.
Good Hygiene will make you feel good.

Check all your belongings and things to bring to avoid urgent situations during the event.
Provide a list and count all the important stuffs with you.

If you will be going alone and later meeting with your friends, and you don’t have someone to secure your wallet/ cellphone, ask a trusted friend to keep it. Cosplay organizers are not responsible for any loss of your personal belongings. Their only task is to keep your baggages safe from non-cosplayers and to guide you before, during, and after your stage performance.

Buy the ticket right away once you arrived at the venue. Register at the cosplay area if you are planning to join the cosplay contest. But if you will be only planning to costrip (Costrip-no plan of joining the cosplay contest) it will be fine. The important is you will express what you have and you want to have some fun during the event.

When people ask for a photo, don’t refuse their request. Instead, pose for them and remember to portray the character’s hand gestures/ actions. If you think you are not ready, state the reason. Maybe your costume/makeup is not yet ready or you are hungry. People can understand that you also have needs.

DURING THE COSPLAY EVENT AND CATWALK

The usual call time for cosplayers is 1 hr. or 30 mins. before the catwalk time. You should be ready and don’t roam around outside the event area. Proceed to the cosplayers area if the emcee/event organizers are calling for your attention.

Check the cosplayers and proceed to the line according to your number. If other cosplayers say “Hi” or “Hello” don’t snob them. Reply them with a smile/ a “hello” too. This is one step to be sociable with other cosplayers/ gain some friends.

If your catwalk call is almost 2-5 cosplayers away, don’t GET NERVOUS.

DURING THE CATWALK

Remember to imitate the character’s actions/ you should feel the character’s personality. If the character has special trademark, like hand gestures/ poses, try to be like him/her. Why? because there is a possibility that the audience will like you. Also the judges can give you a good score.

DON’T OVER ACT when you are on the stage. Use the stage for your advantage. Remember to face the audience and judges. Pose for a while so that photographers can have a good shot of you. If your character’s personality is serious, don’t smile, if the character is introverted, show some shyness, and so on. Generally, cosplayers are given 10-15 seconds to pose/act on the stage.

The following are the common Criterias for Judging:
Accuracy
Craftsmanship
Creativity
Stage Presence/Performance
Audience Impact

And that’s it. Maybe, this guide is too boring to read. But if you really want to be organize and prepare, I know this guide is worth to read.

If I am missing something, just reply here.

Have a nice day!
